How Often Should You Take Spin Classes
As someone who went from zero to five classes a week way too fast and burned out hard, I can tell you finding the right frequency matters. I learned everything about training volume through trial and error – and plenty of exhaustion. The sweet spot depends on your goals and how well you recover.
Beginners
Start with 2-3 classes per week with at least one rest day between sessions. This gives your body time to adapt to the new demands without risking overuse injuries or the mental burnout that kills consistency.
Intermediate Riders
Once you’ve built a base over 4-6 weeks, you can bump up to 3-4 classes weekly. Mix in different class styles to keep your body challenged and prevent the plateaus that come from doing the same thing repeatedly.
Advanced Athletes
Experienced spinners can handle 4-5 sessions per week, but should include at least two lower-intensity recovery rides. Stacking high-intensity day after high-intensity day leads to diminishing returns and eventual breakdown.
Listen to Your Body
Persistent fatigue that doesn’t go away with sleep, declining performance despite effort, or nagging aches that keep coming back are all signs you need more rest. Quality always beats quantity when it comes to training.
Cross-training with strength work, yoga, or swimming on non-spin days creates a well-rounded fitness program that actually supports your cycling goals rather than just adding more stress.
